Sanibel’s E-Bike Rules – Shared Use Paths.

Electric bikes (e-bikes) have become increasingly popular in recent years. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone using Sanibel’s Shared Use Paths, only Class 1 e-bikes are permitted. These e-bikes require riders to pedal for electric assistance, have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph, and lack a throttle.
Sanibel also requires any e-Bike riders must be 16 years of age or older.

Motorized vehicles, micromobility devices, motorized scooters, mopeds, and any other vehicle not powered exclusively by human power are prohibited on the Shared Use Path. The only exception is for power-driven mobility devices used by individuals with disabilities.

Please visit  City of Sanibel’s Website for updates, changes, current laws and statutes regarding ebike usage.
